A prominent representative of the postwar wave of the Belarusian emigration to the West, a great patriot of Belarus and a wonderful person Yanka Zhuchka died yesterday in Belgium.
All the time he was active in the life of the Belarusian diaspora in the West - as a member of the Council of BNR, as a member of the Union of Belarusians in Belgium, as an employee of the newspaper "Belarus".
"We met with Yanka Zhuchka when we opened the first office of Charter'97 abroad. He contributed to it, supported the work of our representative office, participated in all events, not only those of the Charter, but also in the events of the Euro parliament when issues on Belarus had been considered, took part in pickets against Lukashenka's dictatorship, always monitored very carefully what was happening in his Fatherland. Yanka Zhuchka was a real Belarusian who held high our white-red flag abroad"- a candidate for presidency in Belarus, the leader of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Andrei Sannikov said.
