A picket for Bykau Street in Minsk (Photo)


On November 9 a rally was held in Minsk. Its participants demanded to rename Ulyanauskaya Street into Vasil Bykau Street.

At 1 p.m. about three dozens of activists of "Tell the Truth!" campaign formed a human chain along Ulyanayskaya Street. They were holding flags of "Tell the Truth!" campaign and posters with the pictures of plates with street numbers in their hands, where it was written "Vasil Bykay Street" and a number of a house, BelaPAN informs.

The leader of "Tell the Truth!" campaign and a candidate for the presidential position Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, a poet Henadz Buraukin, the chairman of the Belarusian Writers' Union Ales Pashkevich and his assistant, the editor of "Dzeyaslou" magazine Barys Pyatrovich came to support the rally.

An address to 57 deputies of Minsk city council concerning the present situation with the street renaming had been prepared. It was written in each address that more than 100,000 Belarusians have given their signatures in favour of renaming Ulyanauskaya Street into Vasil Bykau Street.
