Belarus has filed a lwasuit to the Economic Court of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) against Russia over oil products custom duties.
As AFN news agency reports, this is said in the statement of the Belarusian Ministry of Justice.
"The Ministry Justice of Belarus filed a lawsuit to the CIS Economic Court, acting as a EurAsEC court, over the issue regarding imposing customs duties on oil products and raw oil supplied to Belarus from Russia," the statement says.
As the Ministry of Justice reports, on the ground of a teletype message of the Russian Federal Customs Service, petroleum refinery products, including raw oil for Belarusian enterprises, have been attracting export duties since January 1, 2010.
"No clear replies from the Russian party have been received to Belarus's repeated requests to explain legal grounds for such actions," the Ministry of Justice notes.
"Meanwhile, the use of export duties on petroleum refinery products used as chemical raw materials in continuous flow processes has significantly impeded and in some areas have stopped supplies of oil products to the country's refineries. In fact, there is a threat of complete halt at a number of biggest petrochemical enterprises of Belarus, which have close cooperation ties with similar Russian companies," the statement says.
So, "the illegal demand to pay export duties … extremely negatively affects the advancement of economic cooperation between economic operators of the two countries. It contradicts the commonly accepted practices of the international trade and undermines the basic principles of good-neighborly relations between the countries."
As noted in the statement, Belarus is the only member of the Customs Union Russia applies such an approach to.
