Russia doesn’t pay Belarus for military bases

Russia doesn't pay anything to Belarus for maintenance of Russian military bases in the country's territory.

As a correspond of REGNUM information agency reports, this statement was made by First Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Andrei Denisov on January 26. Denisov introduces the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement "On Ensuring of Mutual Supplies of Military, Civil and Dual-Purpose Production in Case of Threats of Aggression or Warfare" offered for ratification of the State Duma.

Answering questions of MPs Denisov noted there are a range of military objects relating to air defence, radio location, long distance communication that remained in Belarus from the Soviet military infrastructure. "Indeed, we do not pay any additional amounts in excess of the required sums for maintenance and functioning of these facilities. But this is a part of our relations in the sphere of common defence," he said.
