"Deputies" believe they are not "schoolchildren"

It has been stated by representatives of the illegitimate "parliament" during their visit to France where the issue of death penalty abolition in Belarus was discussed.

At the meeting on May 13 with the delegation of the city of Pouilly-lès-Feurs (France) headed by a member of the Senate of France and vice president of the Council of Europe's Congress Jean-Claude Frécon, Deputy Chairman of the commission on international affairs and links with hte CIS of the "chamber of representtaives" Ihar Karpenka stated the PACE resolution on freezing contacts with Belarus deteriorates solving the issue with imposing a moratorium on capital punishment in Belarus, BelaPAN informs.

He underlined that representatives of Belarus were "very distressed" when restoration of the special guest status in the PACE was dovetailed with capital punishment abolition.

"Metaphorically speaking, I am not a schoolboy any more for the PACE to wag finger at me, [meaning that] that we are doing someting wrong," Karpenka said. "A working group has been created in our country which studies the issue of imposing a moratorium on capital punishment. It seems to me that the PACE resoluion just does damage to solving this problem. We have certain civil and human dignity which does not allow to tolerate admonitions from outside".
