Anatol Krasouski forcibly disappeared on September 16, 1999.
The Belarusian authorities have been carrying out a formal investigation ignoring calls of the family to check information about involvement of Belarusian high-ranking officials in the disappearance. The family doesn't know anything about the fate of Anatol Krasouski, the website of We Remember initiative reports.
On October 16, 2008, the claim of Anatol, Iryna and Valeria Krasouskis against Belarus was registered in the UN Human Rights Committee and its copy was sent to the defendant.
The Krasouskis' complaint was drawn up by a Dutch legal advice agency and is made up of 100 items and 25 supplementary documents of more than 1,000 pages in total. On their behalf, as well as on behalf of Anatol Krasouski, Iryna and Valeria Krasouskis call upon Belarus to
1) promptly interrogate suspects in the case of the forced disappearance of Anatol Krasouski mentioned in PACE's member Christos Pourgurides' special memorandum,
2) meet the numerous demands by Anatol Krasouski's family and the international community by conducting a thorough investigation in his disappearance,
3) identify and announce Anatol Krasouski's burial ground,
4) compensate for the moral and material damage to the victims of Anatol Krasouski's forced disappearance.
The answer of Belarus was received and registered in the Human Rights Commission on January 20, 2009. The plaintiffs issue an official response to the defendant's comments. The complaint of Krasouskis against Belarus will be considered at a Human Rights Committee session.
