Belarusian dictatorship has recieved last tranche of IMF loan


The last tranche of the International Monetary Fund's loan, $670 million in the framework of stand-by program, has been recieved by Belarus.

"Interfax" has been informed about that by the information department of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB).

Like previous loans of the IMF, this tranche has been credited to gold and currency reserves, which were equal to $5577.2 mln as of March 1, 2010 (1.3% less then in the beginning of the year).

As it was informed, the board of executive dicrectors of the IMF completed the fourth and final review of Belarus' performance under an economic program supported by a stand-by arrangement program and approved the disbursement of the IMF loan's final tranche worth almost $670 million to Belarus. The condition for giving the money was to meet criteria ofthe program on March 31, 2010. After that a post-program monitoring of the economic situation in Belarus is expected.

At the moment Belarusian authorities have started discussing possibilties for implementation of a new stand-by program, which term could be 3 years unlike the first program which lasted 14 months. In May the IMF mission is to visit Minsk and to carry out negotiations on that.

From January 2009 to April 2010 the Belarusian authorities implement the IMF stand-by program for stabilization of balance of payments which is supported by $3.5 billion loan. As of beaginning of 2010 the IMF financial support was about $2.9 billion.

Belarus received the IMF loan's first tranche of $800 million in January 2009. The second tranche (almost $680 million) came in July. In October 2009 Belarus received another IMF credit tranche to the tune of $699.5 million. The fourth tranche at the amount of $688 million was transferred in December 2009. Thus, the total lending provided by the IMF now exceeds $3.5 billion.
