UN admits tortures by Belarusian police

The UN Human Rights Committee recorded infringement of civil rights of minor convicted dweller of Homel in the course of proceedings.

As told by human rights activist Raman Kislyak, Hanna Kareba, mother of the convicted, filed an individual complaint to the Committee on December 10, 2004. Her 17-year-old son Dmitry was detained on September 17, 2001, on suspicion of murder of a man, whose body with numerous stab wounds was found in the yard of secondary school #2 on May 24, 2010, "Belorusskie Novosti" informs.

Avtoradio closed down for extremism

The radio station comments on the situation:

"Avtoradio aired agitation materials of presidential candidates Sannikov and Nyaklyaeu during the presidential election campaign. The airing was agreed upon by economic contracts and was held in the following terms: 15-17 December, 2010 – agitation materials of Sannikov, 9-17 December, 2010 – agitation materials of Nyaklyaeu."

Avtoradio didn't receive any complaints from the Central Election Commission in the period of airing the agitation materials. The Ministry of Information didn't send any written warnings, the radio station says.

On January 12, 2011, the radio station received an instruction of the Belarusian State Telecommunication Inspection

Iryna Khalip’s father taken to hospital

He expects difficult eye surgery soon. He had retinal detachment caused by a stress, "Belorusski Partizan" writes.

We remind that Iryna Khalip and her husband Andrei Sannikov, charged with organizing mass riots on December 19, are in the KGB jail now. The authorities used Iryna's little son to put psychological pressure on her.
